ACCOUNTING MANAGER

Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing and performing the day-to-day accounting operations of the company. In a small business environment with limited staff, this role is highly hands-on and requires a detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple responsibilities while ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with accounting standards.
The Accounting Manager works closely with ownership and leadership to provide timely financial information, support budgeting and forecasting, and help guide sound business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Accounting Operations
Manage staff on accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger activities.
Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and monthly closing schedules.
Oversee bank and credit card reconciliations.
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
Provide variance analysis and financial insights to management.
Monitor cash flow and assist with liquidity planning.
Compliance & Controls
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
Maintain appropriate internal controls for a small business environment.
Coordinate with external CPA firm for tax preparation and annual reviews.
Support audits and regulatory filings and support bank reporting requirements.
Process Improvement
Evaluate and improve accounting processes and workflows.
Help implement scalable systems and procedures to support company growth.
Maintain accounting software and financial reporting tools.
Collaboration & Support
Partner with operations, sales, and leadership to provide financial guidance.
Respond to internal inquiries regarding financial data and reporting.
Supervise and train administrative or accounting support staff (if applicable).
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
Experience in a small or mid-sized company strongly preferred.
Supervisory experience a plus but not required.
Skills & Competencies
Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Advanced proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Clear communication skills and ability to interact with non-financial team members.
Work Environment
Full-time position in a collaborative, small-team setting.
Requires flexibility during month-end close and reporting periods.
